LaLiga affirms that Barça “still have to make adjustments to reach the salary limits”

MADRID, 15 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The executive general director of LaLiga, Óscar Mayo, assured this Thursday that FC Barcelona “still has to continue making adjustments to reach the salary limits”, although “it is on the right track”, at the same time that it was “delighted” before a hypothetical arrival of the French striker Kylian Mbappé to the Spanish competition.

“(FC Barcelona) is taking measures with the departures, which help, but they made quite a few additions and they have to continue adjusting. Barça still have to continue making adjustments to reach the salary limits. They are on the right track, they have already made an effort last year”, Mayo assessed in statements to questions from the media after the presentation of the agreement and revelation of the badge between LaLiga and Avery Dennison for the new season.

The manager of the employers’ association pointed out that the departures of Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba and Antoine Griezmann support the good economic ‘health’ of the Barça team, although he did not want to go into whether that margin allowed the return of the Argentine Leo Messi. “We don’t talk about names in particular, we see the treasury plan. If it’s Messi or any other it’s the club’s decision. We know the margin they have to sign and register,” he explained.

In addition, Mayo highlighted that Mbappé “is one of the best players”, so they would be, in LaLiga, “delighted” with his arrival this summer. “But it’s the clubs’ decision,” he recalled, before puffing up the list of footballers who have made, are and will make up the squads of the highest Spanish competition. “The best have been, are and will be here, of the last 20 Ballon d’Ors, I think 14 have been in LaLiga”, he highlighted.

Finally, asked about the hypothesis that Mbappé and the Norwegian Erling Haaland, currently a Manchester City player, share a rivalry in the Premier League, Mayo defended that “leagues are built at half time.” “This year we ended up with a Europa League champion and five participants in the next Champions League. Talking about a course… We are already talking about the ‘tic-tac’ again,” he concluded, referring to the possible signing of Mbappé.
