LaLiga achieves another conviction against a website that gave matches illegally

The defendant charged his clients for a service that provided access to viewing protected content

MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga has obtained another conviction against the website iptvplaystar.com, through which a television service was marketed through IPTV, providing ‘M3U lists’ that allowed customers to access the viewing of protected content such as LaLiga matches Santander lacking the authorization or license.

The Criminal Court No. 13 of Madrid held the hearing for the oral trial in front of the administrator of the website iptvplaystar.com, in which the defendant has acknowledged the alleged facts and has agreed with the accusation, having been convicted of crimes of criminal code against the market and consumers and against intellectual property.

Specifically, the sentence condemns him to a prison sentence of one year and six months and a fine of 16 months at the rate of a daily quota of 5 euros, with subsidiary criminal responsibility of one day of deprivation of liberty for every two unpaid installments.

Likewise, in addition to eliminating access to the web pages related to the facts, the administrator has been sentenced to special disqualification from carrying out any type of activity related to the creation and management of web pages and the administration of servers and hosting, and sale of electronic products during the time of the sentence.

Lastly, the defendant must compensate LaLiga and Mediapro with 5,436.68 euros and he is ordered to pay costs amounting to 1,800 euros.

This sentence is added to the precautionary measures that the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Cieza issued a few weeks ago against a well-known application, which also provided access to pirated football through ‘m3u lists’, in a pioneering and innovator of great importance for holders of intellectual property rights in general and for LaLiga in particular.

Specifically, the Court agreed to withdraw the application from the virtual stores of the main mobile application providers; disable or prevent users of your ‘stores’ who have downloaded the application from accessing the application; Immediately stop paying the commissions earned by downloading the paid version of the application.

The order, after a prior appeal filed by LaLiga, also established the payment by the administrators of the application of the returns generated by advertising in the application, if any.

This judicial resolution represents a transcendental step for the protection of the rights of the owners of intellectual property content, as well as to prevent the continuation of the criminal effects and the profit of those responsible for punishable conduct.
