Lakers’ LeBron James becomes the 20th player in NBA history to be named an All-Star.
Thursday night, the NBA announced the 10 starters for the upcoming All-Star Game in Indianapolis. LeBron James was chosen for the Western Conference, making him the first player who was named to 20 All-Star teams.
James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the player with the most All-Star selections in NBA history. He was joined by Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the West’s starting five.
James thanked his fans, who have been with me for 21 years, calling them “a credit as well as a lot of respect.” He said this after the Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls 141-132 on Thursday night.
“And choosing me as an All-Star starter for the 20th year in a row, I’m just very humbled.” I feel lucky to be able to do what I love and try to give back to the game that has given me so much over the past twenty years.
It’s pretty cool to know that this is the first time in NBA history that this many players have started for an All-Star team. It is an additional All-Star pick for Haliburton, who is playing for the host Pacers, and the first start for Gilgeous-Alexander.
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks led the voting in the Eastern Conference. He was followed by Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, and Damian Lillard of the Bucks.
He said, “This means the world to me.” “Thanks to all of my fans, peers, and the media for the support.
I’m excited to represent the group, especially this year with the event being held in Indiana.” I can’t wait to do something fun this weekend with everyone who helped me earn this honor.
As he continues to defy Father Time in his 21st NBA season, James averages 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over the Los Angeles Lakers.
He broke Abdul-Jabbar’s record a little less than a year after beating what seemed like an unbreakable lifetime scoring record.
“Good for him, dude. “Hope and hard work have hurt him,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said before their game against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.
“That’s crazy. As I thought about this, I told myself, “Damn, he’ll never have an All-Star Weekend in himself just to feel free.”
And keep doing that for 21 years? Holy crap, man. Oh, yeah. But that’s his job. He worked hard on that. He has kept up that consistency and durability. I’m glad for him.
James also said, “Being in the NBA has exceeded any dream I ever had.” That was a long time ago. There is no real need for anything else. What an honor it is to still be able to play a sport I love and reach these goals along the way.
Durant will be going to his 14th All-Star game. Antetokounmpo and Lillard will be going to their eighth, Embiid will be going to his seventh, Jokic to his sixth, and Doncic and Tatum to their fifth.
Thursday night, the league announced the 10 starters for next month’s All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
LeBron James, a star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, was chosen for the Western Conference and became the initial player to be named to 20 All-Star teams.
James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the player with the most All-Star selections in NBA history. Along with him in the NBA’s West starting five are Kevin Durant (forward for the Phoenix Suns), Nikola Jokic (center for the Denver Nuggets), Luka Dončić (guard for the Dallas Mavericks), and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder).
They will play the starters from the Eastern Conference. Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks was voted the most popular player in the poll.
Sixers center Joel Embiid, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Bucks guard Damian Lillard have all joined him.
The standings on February 4 will decide who gets to be the coach. On February 1, TNT will show the reserve picks from each conference, which will be chosen by the NBA’s head coaches.
