MADRID, 6 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
La Vuelta 22 will have more than 40 percent of its vehicle fleet with plug-in hybrid combustion in another step towards sustainable mobility taken by Unipublic and Europcar, in the thirteenth year of the car rental company as official supplier of the round spanish
“La Vuelta reinforces its commitment to green mobility, and more than 40 percent of the fleet will be plug-in hybrid for the first time,” La Vuelta explained in a statement.
From the start in Utrecht (The Netherlands) on August 19 to the finish in Madrid on September 11, La Vuelta will try to leave an “environmental and acoustic footprint lower than ever”. Of the more than 140 vehicles assigned by Europcar, more than 40 percent will be plug-in hybrids.
Vehicles that La Vuelta will use to transport the organization, the media, the organization’s medical vehicles and the sponsors that travel every day with the race.
“La Vuelta continues to work to be an increasingly sustainable event. During the three weeks of the race we move a large fleet of vehicles and with the help of Europcar we will do it in a way that is more respectful of the environment”, explained Javier Guillén.
The rental brand has launched the ‘A sustainable fleet’ program with one main objective: ecological vehicles (those that emit less than 50 g of CO2/km) will represent at least 20% of its total car fleet and vans worldwide by the end of 2024.
In Spain, as Zisik explained, that goal is getting closer. “Today, the company already has 1,500 electric and hybrid vehicles available to customers, the largest fleet of this type in the country in the rental sector,” he added.
