Tennis player Nick Kyrgios, current world number 45, said that in the past, when he played tournaments regularly, he became depressed because he did not meet people's expectations.
The Australian, who has not played since the last Acapulco tournament in February, explained in the middle of his country, the Sydney's Sunday Telegraph, that he felt that he was disappointing people and that he did not enjoy tennis.
“I felt that nobody wanted me as a person, they just wanted to use me as a tennis player. A lot of people put pressure on me and I put a lot of pressure on myself as well. I lost the joy of playing and it got out of hand, “said the Canberra.
“I fell into depression because of the things that I thought it had to be. I was scared to go out there and talk to people because I thought I would disappoint them by not winning games,” he added.
Kyrgios, who became known at Wimbledon 2014 when he beat Rafael Nadal, has achieved six titles in his sports career, reaching number 13 in the ranking in 2016.
However, his performance on the slopes has been obscured by his altercations both on and off the slopes.
Following several incidents, including a chair being thrown onto the track in Rome, getting lost in Shanghai and calling the ATP corrupt in Cincinnati, the Australian was sanctioned in September 2019 with 16 weeks without being able to play and a financial fine, although compliance with the sanction was at the expense of his recurrence.
