Kroos: “The heart keeps working”

It has not been an easy season finale for Toni Kroos. On May 17, his positive for COVID-19 was confirmed, after having been in quarantine for a few days due to contact with another affected person. The German missed both league games for his team, against Athletic and Villarreal, and could not help in the title fight against Atleti. In addition, the coronavirus did not leave him just like that. “I'm weak,” he came to admit. Although he was positive as far as the Eurocup is concerned: “If the deadlines are met, I will be able to join in a normal way.”

Well, in the weekly podcast that he shares with his brother Felix, 'Einfach mal luppen', he has confirmed that his prognosis has come true. “Everything is fine. The heart is still working.”he joked on the show. This Sunday, at the last minute, he was already joining the concentration of the national team, in Seefeld (Austria), after having been negative in a test, although at first he was isolated in his room until there was no risk: “As we all know, there are false positives, but also false negatives. That is why they subjected me to another test on Monday morning, which was negative again. So now I can be officially and completely legal with the national team.”.

In his first contact with training, he had to undergo several tests to verify that his physical condition was optimal. He did a stress test, an electrocardiogram and other tests such as a blood draw, one to measure his lung capacity and an ultrasound of the heart., as well collects the medium 'Aachener Nachriten'. All this to verify that, in his words, “I am not only negative, but I can also do competitive sports again, I am fine”.

On Monday afternoon he already completed a light session and on Tuesday he participated in the preparatory practice for Germany's friendly against Denmark this Wednesday (9:00 pm) at the Tivoli Neu in Innsbruck. However, will not take part in the clash and will have to wait for the next test, on Monday against Latvia (8:45 pm), to dress short in a game with the rest of his teammates. Just eight days before the premiere of the Mannschaft in the European Championship against France, on Tuesday 15 at 9:00 p.m.
