Kroos: “Germany have been longing for players like Musiala and Wirtz for years”

BERLIN, 19 Sep. (dpa/EP) –

Former Germany footballer Toni Kroos has said that German football should be “very happy” to have players like Jamal Musiala, after the Bayern Munich player was criticised by TV commentator and former midfielder Dietmar Hamann, or Florian Wirtz, whom he “had been yearning for for years”.

“Germany have been longing for players like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz for years. They will have to carry us in the coming years, they will have to win games for us in the coming years,” Kroos said on the podcast ‘Einfach mal Luppen’ which he hosts with his brother Felix.

For the former Real Madrid player, who retired after this summer’s European Championship, both Musiala and Wirtz are players “who can turn a seemingly harmless situation into a dangerous one, on their own.” “If Germany wants to win titles in the future, they will need good tournaments from Musiala and Wirtz in the coming years to have a chance,” he added.

This was his response to Dietmar Hamann, who said last week in his column for Sky that Musiala is an “individualist” who “plays alone” and does not make the players around him better, adding that if Bayern could swap Musiala for Wirtz, they should do so as soon as possible.
