Krejcikova and Mertens lift the Ostrava and Monastir titles

MADRID, 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova and the Belgian Elise Mertens conquered this Sunday the WTA tournaments in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Monastir (Tunisia), beating the Polish Iga Swiatek (5-7, 7-6(4), 6-3 ) and France’s Alizé Cornet (6-2, 6-0).

Krejcikova beat the world number one in a tight final to clinch her fifth career title, the second in the last two weeks. The Czech triumphed at home with a spectacular comeback after three hours, over a Swiatek who lost the second final of 12, and her first in three years.

Meanwhile, Mertens became the first champion of the Monastir tournament, with a solid victory over Cornet that sealed winning the last 11 games in a row. The Belgian lifted her first title of 2022 and the seventh of her career.
