Koikili Lertxundi, a former Athletic player, is about to formalize his intention to attend the elections to the presidency of the Basque Football Federation. The former left-handed winger will head a working group with professional experience in the world of sports in general and football in particular. Koikili, 40 years old and popularly known as Koi, defended as a footballer the colors of Aurrera from Vitoria, Osasuna, Gernika, Beasain and Sestao River before making the leap as a professional to Athletic, where he played from 2007 to 2012. The process for the elections to this Federation is already underway and, apparently, more than one candidacy is expected to be presented. The mandate of Luis Mari Elustondo, current president, is extended in principle until March 1, pending whether or not there are elections. The Basque Football Federation, led by Elustondo, recently submitted a formal request to FIFA and UEFA to become a full member of both UEFA and FIFA.
