Koeman: “Laporta gave us good vibes”

Ronald Koeman spoke this Tuesday at a press conference in the preview of the PSG-Barça Champions League that is played in the Parque de los Príncipes this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

In recent weeks the team has come back in LaLiga. Are the feelings different from the first leg?

Hopefully it's different. We have a bad result against. There is always life. It depends on how we start the game and on the energy that we are going to put to complicate life on the contrary. They showed a lot of effectiveness in the first game. We go out to win in any field and we have opportunities. If we are effective, nothing is impossible.

How has Barça changed from 1-4 until now?

In the first leg we were also in a good moment. But you can't compare losing 2-0 to losing 1-4. And PSG is a team that aspires to the maximum in the Champions League. To have a chance to come back you have to play a round match and be very effective. But we will go out to win. Hopefully we can complicate the game.

Do you think that the casualties condition you even more, would there be more options with Piqué and Araújo?

It is true that it is a season where no day we have had all the players available. And we were unlucky with our centrals. But we are strong and we have moved on. And that is what we want to demonstrate again.

How was the meeting with Laporta, do you see more options for Messi to stay with Laporta?

I don't know more possibilities, but the new president Laporta has a past with Leo and that is positive. I do not know if it is a change for Leo to decide to stay because the decision is his but I hope he continues with us. Laporta has won quite a bit; the members have voted and for the club it is good to have a president like him to improve things in the future.

Do you think Laporta will be a good president, what are you going to ask him for?

I do know him. We greet each other several times in the past. And I know Rijkaard well. I know that he is a president who gives confidence to the players and is well into his role of helping the players and the coaches. But in the end it all depends on the results. He entered well, he said a few words to us and there was good vibes. Now we have to continue on the path we have started and it is time to show that we are on the right track.

You said that nothing is impossible. But would he settle for winning and competing, or would he not sign it?

In principle, I am not satisfied with anything. You have to come out strong in the game, play your game, create opportunities to score. If when the game ends, we have given our maximum, we will see the result. But the worst that can happen to us is that we don't give our best in tomorrow's game.

Do you think the improvement in LaLiga will be enough?

We know it is going to be complicated. We play against PSG, not against a team that leaves us. We have to make a round match, but hopefully we can aspire to more. Sometimes we talk about the losses of the opposite, but we must talk about the losses that we have, which are many more than we have tomorrow.

If they come back, would it be your most special moment as a coach?

You have to score more goals than on Sevilla day, they are goals away from home. But, once again, nothing is impossible. We are Barça, and when you are Barça you have to win.

Have you already decided on eleven?

Yes. I have eleven in my head. We had a chat and we will see tomorrow. With these 22 players we can play any system.

How is Araújo?

We have talked and analyzed his last two weeks of training. I think we have forced his return a bit and that caused him discomfort. We don't want to force. He needs more training and if all goes well, he may be available next Monday.

Barça has only achieved seven victories in the Champions League with results that would classify them and in five of those games Messi was there. Do you think Messi can live a historic night?

If we think about being able to come back, we need the players at their best level. And if Leo is capable of making one of the best games, everything is possible. Because you can decide any game at any time. You don't have to put more pressure on Leo; the whole team must be at the best level. We have to finish plays, look for the effectiveness we need. You have to see the start of the game. It will be important.

Can PSG be afraid?

I don't think he's afraid of us. I know his coach well and he will prepare his team in the best way that they do not think that it is an easy game. It is always easier to go back at home than outside. They are different circumstances. We have to play our game. PSG is confident with the new coach.
