MADRID, 16 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp assured this Monday that his team must “start over”, after insisting that they are not hiding and acknowledging that their “potential” has been lower than expected on “too many” occasions.
“It is clear that we are not hiding. Too many times this season we have not played to our potential. We cannot go back in time, but we have to start again,” said the coach at the press conference prior to the ‘replay’ match in this Tuesday against Julen Lopetegui’s Wolves in the FA Cup.
Liverpool comes to this game after losing this weekend against Brighton (3-0) to place ninth in the Premier table, with 28 points, 19 behind leader Arsenal and 10 behind the Champions League places. It was their second consecutive defeat in the League, although Klopp stressed that they will continue “as strong” as they can.
“They are soccer problems, they are solved with soccer,” he explained. “Playing better than against Brighton shouldn’t be so difficult. That’s the first step,” he set himself as a short-term goal to start his reconstruction, after not knowing victory in 2023.
Faced with this situation, already somewhat desperate, the German coach did not rule out going to the winter market to reinforce a squad now depleted by injuries. “We are looking around us. We are not ‘stubborn’. If the solutions were there, they were feasible and they were available, of course we would buy players,” he asserted.
And it is that the English club continues with the sensitive loss of Virgil van Dijk, while Darwin Núñez continues to recover. James Milner will be available in the ‘reds’ to face the team trained by the Spanish Julen Lopetegui in the FA Cup, with whom they will play the tiebreaker after equalizing (2-2) in a first stake.
