Klopp: “I don't want a statue”

Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp was pleased that the club “has taken a heavy backpack off its back” after being crowned this Thursday the Premier League champion for the first time in the last 30 years.

“Liverpool has taken off a heavy backpack, history is no longer a burden, history is now our wonderful background, it is the basis of what we are doing,” said Klopp this Friday in an interview with 'Sky Sports' .

The German recalled that when he arrived at the club they did not want to be compared “more with the fantastic people” who had played and “won everything in the past”. “We needed our followers to give us the opportunity to find our own way, and that was only possible because nobody lost patience with us at any time”, held.

In any case, he does not forget that, although managing a team “is a good job”, he has the difficulty that you cannot “ask for time” and that the results must be seen “immediately”. “People have to see the steps we take; and they (the fans) saw them because they wanted to see them and that made this story possible then,” he warned.

Klopp is also optimistic for the future because he sees Liverpool “in a good moment”. “We are all young enough to go for something else, this is not the final destination, it is a moment like last year's Champions League final “he indicated.

Finally, the coach of the 'red' team does not want relaxation, although his next game is not until next Thursday and against Manchester City by Pep Guardiola. “We will train again from Saturday at full speed. We have to play against Manchester City and if we go there to 50 percent, they will kick us out of the stadium, but that will not happen, we will be ready“stressed the one from Mainz.

“We are champions, but on the field, we will behave as if we have never won anything before”, sentenced the German coach, who does not care if there will be “hall of honor” of his rival. “We cannot influence that,” he settled.

In addition, in a video conference with various media, he also made it clear that he does not care about his future. “I can't say I'll sign a lifetime contract, but I'll be here for a while. “he confessed. “I don't want a statue, that's not my motivation. It's good to be in this club right now,” he added.
