Kiprotich and Jepchumba conquer a record Movistar Half Marathon in Madrid

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Kenyan athletes Ronald Kiprotich Kirui and Nelly Jepchumba have been proclaimed winners of the twentieth edition of the Movistar Half Marathon in Madrid this Sunday, an event in which both have smashed the distance records in the Madrid test and in which up to seven men They have come down from the hour.

The men’s category was resolved in a final sprint in which up to seven runners practically reached the finish line together, with Kiprotich, who pulled the race to kilometer 10, taking a few meters ahead to finish with a time of 59: 38.

For his part, the also Kenyan Ezra Kipketer Tanui finished second with the same mark as the third placed, Solomon Kirwa Yego (59:43). The first Spaniard to finish was the Extremaduran Houssame Benabbou (1:04:56), and after him came big names like Pablo Villalobos, Chema Martínez, Abel Antón or the triathlete Javier Gómez Noya.

In women, up to four women have stopped the clock before 1:09, with Kenyan Nelly Jepchumba in front of all of them (1:07:46), lowering the previous historical record by almost two minutes.

Ethiopian Alemitu Tariku Olana finished in second position (1:07:58), while Ayinadis Teshome Birle closed the podium (1:08:18). Khadija Sammah Talal, with a time of 1:15:44, was the first Spanish, eleventh overall.

With more than 17,000 registered, the race started from Paseo de la Castellana to the finish line on Paseo de Recoletos, passing through some of the most representative monuments and streets of the Spanish capital.

In addition, the 5-kilometer ProFuturo Race was held in parallel, which has raised more than 19,000 euros that will be donated to the digital education program with which Fundación Telefónica and Fundación ‘la Caixa’ contribute to closing the educational gap in isolated environments and at risk of exclusion from 40 different countries.

Borja Aragoneses, with a mark of 18:04, and Claudia Moreno, with 21:48, were the winners of the test. Marc Hurtado and Miguel Del Pozo, in the male category, and Susana Sánchez-Alamo and Claudia Escalera, in the female category, completed the podiums.
