Elioud Kipchoge of Kenya, Karsten Warholm of Norway, Mondo Duplantis of Sweden, Ryan Crouser of America and Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda are the five finalists for the World Athletics ‘Best Male Athlete’ award of 2021 and whose winner will be announced next December 1st.
Kipchoge, winner of this recognition in 2018 and 2019, again entered the shortlist of candidates thanks to his Olympic gold in the marathon in Tokyo 2020, a condition that his rivals also hold anyway.
Thus, Warholm, in addition to that title in the 400 meters hurdles, has signed a great 2021 with the victory in the Diamond League and a new world record in his discipline, while Crouser was champion in the Japanese capital of shot put and he broke the world outdoor and indoor records in a season where he was undefeated.
For his part, Duplantis, who won this award last year, was gold on the pole in Tokyo and also won the Diamond League and the indoor continental title, and Cheptegei got double booty in the Games since his title in 5,000 joined a silver in 10,000.
