Kiko Martínez loses the world crown in an adulterated final

MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish boxer Kiko Martínez could not defend his featherweight champion crown of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) after losing in the early hours of this Sunday against the Englishman Josh Warrington in a meeting held in Leeds (England).

Everything was ‘prepared’ for the title to stay at home. Apart from the referee, also of English nationality, the local contender began the fight by hitting Kiko Martínez with a tremendous header, who competed weighed down for the rest of the rounds.

Warrington was not only punished, but he got away with it in the subsequent rounds by pushing with his head and cornering the boxer from Elche on the ropes on multiple occasions. The judge let the British representative roam freely, culminating in his victory in the seventh round by jumping and somersaulting around the ring.

In this way, Kiko Martínez -known as ‘The Sensation’- has not been able to overcome this Friday the feat of Javier Castillejo, also two-time European champion and the “greatest in the history of Spain”, as Martínez himself has defined him.
