Kahn denies Bayern Munich interest in Haaland

MUNICH (GERMANY), Dec. 24 (dpa / EP) –

Bayern Munich managing director Oliver Kahn denied the Bavarian club’s interest in acquiring the services of Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, confirming that they will not try to sign one of their rivals’ top scorer in the Bundesliga.

Like the president of Bayern Munich, Herbert Hainer, Kahn himself also expressed his disinterest in signing the rival’s best striker. “We have Robert Lewandowski. He will also score 30 or 40 goals for a few more years,” Kahn told the ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’ newspaper.

Hainer recently expressed the same opinion. The 33-year-old Polish striker still has a contract with the Bavarian champion until June 30, 2023.

Regarding the possible retention of international Niklas Süle, Kahn said they consider him a key player. “But it has to be reasonable for both parties,” he acknowledged about his renewal. The 26-year-old defender’s contract ends this season.

In general, Kahn was quite reserved about possible transfers in this winter market, and explained that Bayern is in a phase of “observation” and that in the first place it is necessary to see what direction the coronavirus pandemic takes and the restrictions to stop contagions.

“But one thing is clear: we are not adventurers,” Kahn stressed. “Economically, we are able to do some things. But at this moment, the lack of income of the spectators is hurting us again due to the pandemic,” he valued.

In view of the high numbers of infections and the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the German government ruled that football matches and major events will not be attended by the public from December 28. Some German federal states have even advanced the validity of the measure.

On the other hand, Kahn eloquently praised Leroy Sané and his performance at Bayern, calling the 25-year-old “self-confident”. “He has the ability to score, demands the ball, seeks and wins important duels, runs backward in almost all attacks,” he celebrated.

“And why? Because he has decided to do it himself, but also because the group encourages him to do it. That is maintained here, from generation to generation,” said who held the goal of Bayern for more than a decade, a club with him. who won numerous titles.
