Juventus fires Sarri … and now dreams of Zidane

Andrea Agnelli yesterday had announced that “in a couple of days” the decision would be made on the Juventus bench. In the end, it took less than 24 hours: Maurizio Sarri, as of this Saturday will stop being the coach of the Vecchia Signora, after the official statement from Juventus. An absolutely unavoidable decision, after a season that cannot be defined as disastrous by a scudetto arrived thanks to the lack of continuity of the rivals and with the worst numbers in recent years. The elimination with Lyon has sentenced the Italian, who twice attacked journalists defining “offensive” questions about his future, which according to his version could not depend on a match. He was very wrong: the former Napoli could only save his position with a wonderful Champions League, and instead he left the competition in the round of 16 against the most affordable rival of the draw. A European campaign that Agnelli defined “disappointing”, falling very short.

The president threw the house out the window to take over Cristiano's services and break the jinx with Orejona, and after having gone out in the rooms a year ago with Ajax, he got another great upset. To the bad results in the cups (Juve also fell in the Super Cup with Lazio and in the Cup final with Naples), doubts were added about a game that was expected to be brilliant and that has never been seen, also losing the defensive solidity that was always the hallmark of the Turinese (43 goals conceded in 38 rounds, worst figure since 1962 for an Italian champion).

Now, Vecchia Signora has started the contacts for his replacement: the big dream is to convince Zinedine Zidane, who left his continuity in Madrid a couple of weeks ago, but the most affordable targets are Mauricio Pochettino and Simone Inzaghi, for which he would have to negotiate with Lazio. The possible return of Max Allegri also sounds, which practically all the Juventini yearn for after having criticized him despite winning four doubles (Scudetto-Cup) and two Champions League finals. Meanwhile, Sarri will have to “be content” with the six million net that he will receive until 2022. Basically, his goal has been fulfilled: two years ago, he said that for him “the time to get rich” had arrived….
