Jung Hoo Lee joins the Giants. The Korean outfielder signs a $113 million, six-year deal to play in the MLB.

There it is! The San Francisco Giants possess finally signed a famous free agent. According to Jim Bowden of CBS Sports HQ, the Giants as well as South Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee agreed to a $113 million deal that will last for six years.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post says that the deal lets the parties back out after four years. The team has not yet announced that the player has signed.

Lee, who is 25, has been with the Kiwoom Heroes in the Korea Baseball Organization for seven years and is one of the best players in the history of the league.

In his career, he has hit.340,.407,.491, hit 65 home runs, stolen 69 bases, and walked more times than he struck out.

This past season, Lee hit.318/.406/.455 in 86 games before he hurt his ankle in August and had to end his season.

Because he hit 23 home runs and hit.349/.421/.575 that year, Lee was named KBO MVP. He also comes from a family of nobles.

Jong Beom, Lee’s father, was the KBO’s most valuable player once and still holds the record for most stolen bases in a single season.

Jung Hoo was the first player to go straight from high school to the KBO without playing in the lower leagues.

Lee is a South Korean MVP as well as the son of a past MVP. After four years and $72 million, he can get out of the deal and sign with another team.

The Giants haven’t made the playoffs in two years after winning an franchise-record 107 games or the NL West in 2021. Lee’s versatility will help them right away.

The deal was made after the Giants failed to sign Shohei Ohtani, a two-way star who signed a record-setting $700 million, 10-year agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lee, who is 25 years old, was posted by the Kiwoom Heroes in South Korea on December 4. If he plays out his deal, the Giants will have to pay the Heroes $18,825,000 as a posting fee.

When Bob Melvin was hired as manager of the Giants in October, he said that he would help bring in players from Asia because he has taught many great players, particularly Ha-Seong Kim in San Diego.

This year, Lee played in 86 games and hit.318 with six home runs and 48 RBIs. However, on July 22, he broke his left ankle in a game versus the Lotte Giants and missed the rest of the season.

The posting fee will go down to $12,675,000 if he decides to back out. His best years were last year, when he hit.349 and had 23 home runs and 113 RBIs in 142 games. He was named novice player of the year in 2017 and most valuable player in 2022.

Lee also hit.429 with two doubles as well as five RBIs for South Korea during this year’s World Baseball Classic. However, South Korea did not make it out of the first round.

At the 2021 Olympics, he hit.241, with three doubles, one home run, and three RBIs. South Korea lost to the US in the quarterfinals and to the Dominican Republic for third place.

Lee, who is 25, hit.340/.407/.491 in six seasons with the Korea Baseball Organization. He has been thought of as a possible MLB player for a long time.

This year, he only played in 86 games before breaking his left ankle and having to have surgery to end the season.

When he was 18, he set a KBO rookie record for hits. In 2022, he won the KBO MVP Award, and he played well against current and past Major League Baseball players in international games.

Heyman says Lee can get out of his contract after four years. These teams will also pay Lee’s KBO team, the Kiwoom Heroes, a posting fee.

Lee is one of many well-known foreign players who could sign big deals in MLB teams this winter. We have information on all seven of them from scouts.

As always, the Giants will keep looking for the best players and want to show fans that they can get star players to sign with them.

The Giants tried to sign Shohei Ohtani but failed, even though they offered a competitive deal.

This shows how hard it is for them to get top-level talent and makes people question their future ability to compete for star players.
