Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham and Chelsea defender Levi Colwill have fallen out of England’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia due to injury this Tuesday, the Federation has confirmed. English Football (FA).
Both the Real Madrid player and Colwill did not play with their respective teams over the weekend due to shoulder problems, and have left the British team’s camp for the last two games in Group C.
“Jude Bellingham and Levi Colwill will not take part in England’s upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia,” the England team confirmed. “Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Kalvin Phillips will join the group later this week due to personal matters,” he added.
The two players arrived at St George’s Park on Monday to undergo assessments, but will now return to their clubs “to continue their rehabilitation”.
Their retirements follow in the wake of James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Lewis Dunk, who were replaced on Gareth Southgate’s list on Monday by Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer.
Southgate, however, has not called up any other players to replace Bellingham and Colwill, leaving the final squad for the home game against Malta and the trip to North Macedonia at 23 players.
England has already secured its place in next summer’s Euro 2024 finals in Germany, but the English coach wants to be seeded when the draw is held in Hamburg next month, so victory in both games remains being a key objective.
