Juan Carlos I changes plans before returning to Madrid after three years without setting foot in Zarzuela

Disappointment in Sanxenxo due to the absence of King Juan Carlos in the V Circuit Class 6 meters, the Spanish Cup regatta in which the Bribón competes these days. We are talking about the boat with which the Emeritus and his crew won the world championship last September, on the British Isle of Wight. Only that Felipe VI’s father is not there.

The Nautical Club of the Galician town, whose president is Pedro Campos, the closest friend of the former monarch and his host when he visits the area and they sail together in Galician waters, he was thinking of proposing to the Sailing Federation to postpone the date of the competition to a week later, so that King Juan Carlos, after compete, he will leave Galicia directly for Madrid, where he is expected on October 31, at the private lunch that Felipe and Letizia offer to the rest of their family, after Eleanor of Bourbon swear the Constitution, coinciding with the celebration of his or her coming of age.

Juan Carlos I will be at the El Pardo palace lunch, but it is possible that he will go with just enough time to meet with his son, his Letizia, the Infanta Sofía, Leonor, the Infantas Elena and Cristina, and the rest of his grandchildren, although it is not confirmed that all of them are present, for different reasons.

The father of Felipe VI has given up spending this week sailing the Galicia and will arrive in Madrid only a short time before the Princess of Asturias ceremony. He was surely excited to enjoy more of the capital and meet up with some of his friends at his favorite restaurants.

11 hours in Zarzuela

It must be remembered that the Emeritus has not set foot in the capital of Spain, as far as we know, since his departure to Abu Dhabi on August 3, 2020, with the exception of the 11 hours that, two years after his departure, he spent in the palace of Zarzuela to meet with his son, Queen Sofía and a few other members of the family. He was not allowed to spend the night in what had been his residence for almost 60 years and he had to return to the United Arab Emirates that same night. In his recent trips, he has given the impression that little by little his stays in Spain are becoming normal, with a view to a definitive return. Don Juan Carlos has turned 85 years old and many voices consider it regrettable that his life ended far from his country.

This absence from the Galician regatta where his boat competes has been an unexpected setback. Is your next visit to Madrid going to be timed again? Will you have to go back to exile voluntary that same day, because he cannot sleep in the Zarzuela palace, with the argument that it belongs to the National Heritage and that stay would not be politically acceptable, due to his previous behavior, labeled as inappropriate?
