Juan Carlos I, around his immunity from Corinna’s lawsuit: what we will see in the London courts

There will be a trial and everything points to it being held in 2023. The United Kingdom Court of Appeals hears the lawyers of Juan Carlos Iwho will try to defend the immunity of the father of Philip VIfor the events that occurred between April 2012 and 2014 in the lawsuit for alleged harassment filed by Corinna Larsen. The businesswoman has also resorted to the strategy of synchronizing this view with the launch of your podcast series in a marketing and communication campaign perfectly measured to impact. In his sonorous account of his relationship with the emeritus, he revealed: “The king returned with bags of money. He returned from his trips happy as a 5-year-old child and said that his friends had given it to him.”

The lawyer of the emeritus appeals in this hearing on Tuesday the 8th the judge’s ruling that denied him immunity regarding the events prior to 2014, when he was head of state, as stated in a resolution of July 26.

Regarding the events after the abdication, the high court gave the green light to Judge Matthew Nicklin, of the Superior Court of Justice, to continue with the investigation of Juan Carlos’s alleged harassment of Corinna Larsen.

The German princess of Danish origin, in her claim for harassment that she claims to have received from the king’s father, asked the British courts to claim compensation from the emeritus, the amount of which has not been disclosed, for the costs of her medical health treatment and for the “installation of personal security measures and daily protection services”.

The years before the abdication

At the hearing on July 18, the lawyer for the emeritus defended that any judicial process that affected Don Juan Carlos would “necessarily” impact the image of Felipe VI. The judges of the high court disagreed on this point, pointing out that this argument had no “real prospect of success.” They also insisted that the fact that the emeritus is part of the royal family did not imply that he enjoyed sufficient protection to protect his acts. As for the reported events that correspond to the years prior to his abdication (between 2012 and 2014), the magistrates then gave free rein for the emeritus to fight for his immunity. And at this point is the process.

At this stage, a search of Larsen would have taken place in Monaco by the CNI, under the direction of Félix Sanz Roldan. An event that, according to the princess, concerns private acts that have nothing to do with the head of state. This argument is the one that Judge Nicklin maintained when he decided to deny immunity to Juan Carlos I.
