Joselu, new Espanyol player for the next three seasons

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Forward José Luis Mato, known as Joselu, signed for RCD Espanyol this Monday, reaching an agreement with the Catalan club for the next three seasons, according to a statement from the ‘perico’ team.

“José Luis Mato Sanmartín (Stuttgart, Germany, 3/27/1990), known sportingly as Joselu, has become RCD Espanyol’s second signing for the 2022-2023 season. The club has reached an agreement with the footballer who has signed a contract for three seasons,” reported Espanyol.

The 32-year-old striker arrives at the Blue and Whites after finishing his contract with Deportivo Alavés, a team in which he has played for the last three seasons, and after achieving his best goalscoring record in the 2021-2022 season, scoring 14 goals in LaLiga Santander.

With a past in the Celta and Real Madrid subsidiaries, Joselu, who made his debut with the whites’ first team and even managed to score in the two games he played, has had football experiences in the Bundesliga (Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover 96) , in the Premier League (Stoke City and Newcastle) and in LaLiga (Celta, Deportivo de La Coruña and Alavés).

The new Espanyol player, who has already passed the relevant medical examination at the Corachán Clinic, will be presented this Monday at the RCDE Stadium’s Juan Segura Palomares Auditorium at 2:00 p.m.
