José Mari: “We have worked to enjoy the fans next season”

José Mari, one of the captains of Cádiz, went through the official media of the club before starting his vacation to take stock of the season just ended, 2020-21, which the yellow team has ended with a great performance. As in all campaigns, the Yellow Submarine has gone through bad times and good times, but they have always managed to emerge victorious thanks to the work of the entire team and the union of the dressing room. Next, José Mari, one of the key pieces in the center of the field for Álvaro Cervera along with Jens Jonsson, offers his impressions. Of course, the Roteño is very happy with the achievement of the main objective, the permanence in LaLiga Santander.

Season balance. José Mari is very proud of the team's work this season and for this reason he has categorically stated that “the balance has to be remarkably high. Very positive balance ”. He added that “we have achieved a very difficult goal, which at the beginning of the season we saw very far, which was going to cost us a lot. Playing games that will remain in the history of the club, winning great teams. And the objective has been more than achieved ”.

The best and worst moment of the team? “The worst moment was the streak in which we reaped several consecutive defeats and in a bulky way” and the best “to complete the salvation and the achievement of the objective. It is a very great liberation that we had ”.

Personal balance. “It has been a year with pros and cons. The truth is that from a sporting point of view I have found myself at a very good level ”. He added that “in general terms the season has been, personally, quite good, with the blur of the months in which I had the injury, which affected me a lot and I had a bad time. But I got back to my level and to get up from that fall, and that's the main thing ”. In addition, he affirmed that “when things come badly, that one takes out his character, the desire to help the team in difficult moments. One moment, a very beautiful season, that last year we really wanted to participate and that we have worked hard to leave Cádiz another year in the First Division and we can live it with our people ”.

Aspirations for the next season. “Collectively, consolidate ourselves in the highest category. Be a team with clear ideas. To continue taking care of our wardrobe because it is the basis of all our successes ”. In addition, he added that “also improve the aspects necessary to compete better in the First Division and be that difficult and rocky team that we have been to achieve the goal of permanence.”

On the individual level. “To continue contributing, to continue being important as I have been until now. To continue helping with my work and experience to keep the team in the elite for a long time. I am very happy with how my time in Cádiz is being. And may it get even better in the next courses ”.

A moment of the course. He recalled “the victory against Madrid. It is a historic match against Madrid in their field. We played an exceptional match. In the first part we were able to reap a very bulky result ”. He continued stating that “the team appeared in Valdebebas as a team made in the First Division. Those victories mark. And the game against Granada was to hit the table and say: Cádiz remains in the First Division ”.

One word to define the season. “Family”, he stressed. He proudly explained that “what has been harvested this year is the result of the dressing room that we have, of the complicity that we have, the directive, the coaching staff, the players, the fans (even if they were unable to be there). That is the great secret that Cádiz has today and on which all its sporting successes are based, that everything we do on the field is endorsed by loving us, respecting us in the dressing room, within the institution. And from there, the work is put in the field and everything comes out ”.
