José Fernández Nieto: “If we have to play a playoff, we will play it”

The president of Ponferradina, José Fernández Nieto, spoke this Monday for the media after the victory of the Berciano team against Almería recalling that, although the main objective remains “at 50 or 51 points, once that is achieved, what the players and the club want is to finish as high as possible. If we have to play a playoff, we play it. Now we are in a very good moment and hopefully we can continue in that line ”.

Silvano, as the Berciano leader is popularly known, referred to the fact that “We started with the lowest budget in the category, but this is not mathematics and you can beat Almería, which has a much larger budget ”. In that sense, he stressed that “the key is to have a group of players who fight for this shirt and a coach like Jon Bolo. There is a permanent harmony between players and coach. Jon is humble and does not cheat, and that transmits it to the players ”.

Souvenir for the fans

Fernández Nieto wanted to have a memory for the fans who have not been able to attend the stadium for a year: “We are living a sweet moment, but at the same time we are sad because we cannot be with our fans. TEvery game we remember them, because Ponferradina is nobody without their fans ”.

The blue and white leader announced that, although nothing has been decided yet, “We are sure to do something good for our season ticket holders because of their commitment this season, without knowing if they would be able to go to the field.” In this regard, he assured that “now there are dates in early May to be able to return, but that does not depend on Laliga or the clubs, but will be marked by the development of the pandemic. Hopefully they can return, because that would also indicate that there are less affected by the disease.

Renovations underway

Without giving names, The president of Ponferradina did announce that negotiations are already underway to renew some of the members of the workforce, although in the short term no answers are expected: “There is good harmony with the players and maybe in a month we will have news.”
