Spanish rider José Antonio Rueda (KTM) has achieved his first victory in the World Championship of motorcycling this Sunday by winning the Moto3 race of the Aragon Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the championship, leading a podium in which he was accompanied by the Dutchman Colin Veijer (Husqvarna) and the Italian Luca Lunetta (Honda).
The Seville native took the lead of the race with five laps to go and defended his lead to make his debut as a winner in the World Championship. He also becomes the 400th winner in the history of the World Championship.
All this after a race in which Colombian David Alonso (CFMoto), leader of Moto3, led until the halfway point, when his pace began to drop and he was hampered to fourth place in the final. Even so, he increased his lead at the head of the general classification (237) due to the twelfth place of the Spaniard Iván Ortolá (KTM), who with his twelfth place fell to third place (157) and was overtaken by Veijer (163).
Poleman David Alonso did not waste his privileged position and took off once the lights went out. With a spectacular pace, he pulled away from his rivals and by the halfway point of the race he was already two seconds ahead of the first of the pursuers, the Dutchman Colin Veijer (Husqvarna), who had moved up from ninth place.
However, the Dutchman quickly closed the gap and was on his wheel with seven laps to go, before overtaking him shortly afterwards. Behind him, Italian Luca Lunetta (Honda) and José Antonio Rueda (KTM) were swapping positions in the midst of a fight for third place on the podium, and their intense fight allowed them to close in on the top two.
With five laps to go, the Los Palacios driver managed to take the lead of the race while Alonso’s pace dropped to finish fourth. Veijer and Lunetta managed to hold on to their positions and finished on the podium.
As for the rest of the Spaniards, David Muñoz (KTM) finished seventh; Xabi Zurutuza (KTM) finished eighth, ahead of Dani Holgado (GasGas), ninth; Adrián Fernández (Honda) was eleventh; Iván Ortolá (KTM) finished twelfth; Joel Esteban (CFMoto) fifteenth; and David Almansa (Honda), eighteenth. Neither Ángel Piqueras (Honda) nor Vicente Pérez (Honda) managed to finish.
