Jorge Vilda: “We have to accept the challenges and look forward”

MADRID, 11 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The national women’s soccer coach, Jorge Vilda, stressed this Monday that “the expectations” created with his team are due to the good work of the players and made it clear that they must now “accept the challenges” that lie ahead and that “the maximum demand and the maximum pressure” they put on themselves, while they assured of the difficulty of this Tuesday’s duel in Glasgow against Scotland where they hope to seal the ticket for the 2023 World Cup.

“The expectations created by the team are for how well it has done and for showing against great rivals that we can compete, but then we have to win the games and we still haven’t beaten Germany, Sweden or France. We want to do it and We are prepared and waiting for the day we have the opportunity, we put the maximum pressure on ourselves to be better”, said Vilda at a press conference prior to Tuesday’s match against Scotland.

The coach pointed out that last Thursday’s friendly against Brazil “was a very valid test” because they faced a rival that “demands the best of you, of a ‘top’ level and that in terms of pace and competitiveness” is similar to those who they are going to meet “in big events” like the next European Championship.

“We want to win all the games because we put the highest demands on ourselves. I think that because of what we did, especially at the end, we should have won on Thursday, but we are at a point where we have to accept the challenges and look ahead. forward. It’s a privilege that expectations are so high and that’s because of the good work of the players, but the outside affects us little”, added Vilda.

The man from Madrid acknowledged that against Brazil he gave minutes to “players who have played the same less in the past” and that they had “very good news in terms of the performance of some”, but also “aspects” in which they should be “better”. “These matches serve to further clarify the EURO 23 squad, but not only the matches, but also the training sessions and what they do with their clubs,” he warned.

“When we get to July 8 mentally we are going to try to be one hundred percent and be above our rivals so that if we then complete it with a very good physical shape we can look any team in the face. This is the last date before of the European Championship and we will improve in all aspects, but Brazil hurt us in transitions because we have a way of playing in which we remain exposed. We do better every time, but we have to refine some issues to be stronger in this We have to continue with a job and a line that I think is positive”, added the coach.

Finally, regarding the duel against Scotland, in which victory will give them the World Cup ticket, he insisted that the precedent of 7-0 at La Cartuja last November “is not a very good reference.” “Now they are better, they have all their players and it is a strengthened team. They play at home and all of their chances of qualifying for the World Cup come from beating us,” he warned.

“I expect a great team, which is going to close the spaces for us, which is going to defend very well and which will be dangerous on the counterattack. The great work of Pedro (Martínez) is being noticed, we have a difficult game ahead of us”, Vilda sentenced.
