Jorge Vilda: “We have a Spain with a great future”

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The women’s national soccer coach, Jorge Vilda, acknowledged a “bitter taste” for the elimination in Euro 2022 this Wednesday against England in the quarterfinals, with the positive of the promising future that he sees in his team.

“The taste is bitter, because of how the defeat was and we are leaving this championship. If there is a good way to lose you is by playing the game that my players played today,” she said at a press conference after the 2-1 win in Brighton.

The Spain coach revealed what he said to his players after the extra-time loss, despite taking the lead in the 54th minute through Esther González. “I have told them that both I and everyone are proud of what we have seen on the field. They have left everything, they have tried everything, it has not been possible, we have to leave with our heads held high”, she pointed out.

“We have a team for a while, we have a Spain with a great future, from what we have seen in this European Championship and what comes from below. We will have to digest it and seek to improve, and hope that in the future when we have an important moment, the headwind and these setbacks we’ve had since the concentration began”, he added confident of what will come.

Vilda did not want to talk about the controversy at 1-1 in England, where Irene Paredes was elbowed. “You have seven minutes left and you are thinking about what can be done to avoid conceding a goal. At that moment, a cross and they equalize you. From the bench I have not seen it clearly. Beyond that, we can keep the good performance of the players and what comes to us in the future,” he said.

“We have scored the goal, we were losing possession, they approached with danger and we have brought out players who could help us more in that. They have all done well, we would have liked to have had more of the ball, the key would have been to score the second goal” , term.
