Jorge Martín wins the sprint and places second in the MotoGP World Championship

The leader ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia finishes second and Marc Márquez remains out of the points

MADRID, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Ducati) has conquered the victory in the MotoGP sprint race at the German Grand Prix, the seventh round of the Motorcycle World Championship, and has risen to second position overall in the premier category, only by behind the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).

With his second victory in the short race of the year after that of France, the man from San Sebastián de los Reyes recovered three points overall from ‘Pecco’, who reduced damage with a second place this Saturday, and moved up to second place in the championship, overtaking Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), seventh at Sachsenring. Australian Jack Miller (KTM) completed the podium for the day.

The man from Madrid was already aiming strongly when in Q2 he marked a front row lap, later annulled by the yellow flags caused by the falls of the Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati) and Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), but this Saturday he did not fail to come back from the sixth starting position.

As soon as the traffic lights went out, he rose to third place, and he only needed four laps, of the 15 that were given to the Saxony ring, to get first. No one could dispute the victory, second of the year to the sprint after Le Mans.

Totally opposite was the race of Marc Márquez, who in qualifying guaranteed himself a seventh starting position despite suffering up to three crashes, one in Q1 and two in Q2. Little by little, the man from Cervera lost positions until he ended up in eleventh, outside the points zone.

As for the rest of the Spaniards, Álex Márquez (Ducati) finished eighth, just ahead of Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), Augusto Fernández (KTM) was fourteenth and Raúl Fernández (Aprilia), eighteenth, while Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) could not reach the finish line by a crash in turn 1 with four laps to go.
