Jorge Martín makes his debut in the sprint and Marc Márquez finishes fifth

MADRID, 13 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Ducati) has conquered this Saturday the victory in the sprint race of the French Grand Prix, fifth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, commanding a podium that was also climbed by the South African Brad Binder (KTM) and the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).

With his third podium in five sprint races, the man from Madrid rises to fourth place overall (60), which ‘Pecco’ (94) continues to dominate with 23 points ahead of Binder, who rises to second place to the detriment of the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (68).

Once the lights went out at Le Mans, ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia defended his pole position while Jorge Martín and Australian Jack Miller (KTM) passed Spanish Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) at the start.

The oceanic race, however, ended soon, since only one turn later he suffered a fall that left him out of the fight. Just one lap later, Martín stormed the lead after overtaking Bagnaia, who was also led by the South African Brad Binder (KTM) and Márquez.

The Spaniard began to pull and no one disputed his first victory in the sprint, and ‘Pecco’ came back in the last few turns to guarantee himself third place. The man from Cervera, for his part, was overtaken by Luca Marino (Ducati) and finished fifth.

Furthermore, Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) finished eighth, ahead of his teammate Maverick Viñales (Aprilia). Álex Rins (Honda) was eleventh, Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) fourteenth and Álex Márquez (Ducati), fifteenth.

Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) crashed with four laps to go and was unable to finish the race, just like Augusto Fernández (KTM).
