Jorge Martín: “From now on we will have to go with the same weapons and there is no negotiation”

MADRID, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Ducati) has assured from now on he will have to use “the same weapons” as the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) to try to fight for the championship, after his choice of soft rear tire cost him the victory and condemned him to fifth position in the Australian MotoGP Grand Prix race.

“It is clear that from now on we will have to go with the same weapons and there is no negotiation with this,” he said on DAZN after the test on Phillip Island. “We haven’t made the right decision, but of course, now it’s easy from the outside to see which is the good rubber,” he added.

The Madrid native achieved pole and led the race 26 of the 27 laps, but he chose a different set of tires than his rivals and suffered the consequences of the degradation of the rear soft compound. In the last lap, he was overtaken by the Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati), by the Italians ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia (Ducati) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati) and by the South African Brad Binder (KTM). Finally, he was fifth.

Despite everything, he seemed “happy.” “I think we had a great day: a pole position, then I drove quite smoothly and under control, knowing that at the end of the race I could reach the limit. I didn’t expect the tire to drop and I lost those three seconds that I had “It is what it is, keep rowing,” he said.

“I reached those three seconds by driving slowly, I didn’t push very hard either, that’s what makes me angry. Even saving the entire race, at the end of the race I didn’t have any more. Next time it won’t happen to me and we’ll learn for another year,” he concluded. .
