Jorge Martín and Marc Márquez take the podium in Bagnaia’s victory in Montmeló

MADRID, 26 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) has achieved victory this Sunday in the MotoGP race of the Catalunya Grand Prix, the sixth round of the motorcycle World Championship, ahead of the Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati), who continues to lead the general classification of the championship, and Marc Márquez (Ducati), who was able to climb from fourteenth to third place.

In Montmeló, ‘Pecco’ proved to be the fastest, always riding at paces of 1:40, which allowed him to take the lead of the race with six laps to go and not lose it, making up for Saturday’s fall in the final lap. when he was marching first that deprived him of celebrating the victory.

In this way, Bagnaia is second in the World Cup, 39 points behind Martín (155), who successfully maintains his privileged position with his second place this Sunday. The eldest Márquez, for his part, completed a spectacular comeback that places him third in the standings, 41 points behind the Madrid native.

As soon as the traffic lights went out, poleman Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), winner of the sprint on Saturday, gave up two positions so that Bagnaia could lead the race ahead of Acosta. Martín, for his part, managed to place third in the second lap to go after the front duo.

Two laps later, the one from San Sebastián de los Reyes overtook the Murcian, and one later he took the lead of the race by overtaking ‘Pecco’ on the inside. The one from Mazarrón recovered and, on lap 6, he also got rid of the transalpine to go after Martín.

However, Acosta’s fight ended with 14 laps to go with a crash in turn 10, which caused him to join the back of the pack and left Bagnaia free to reach the Spaniard. Little by little, he got on top of the Spaniard, and with only six laps to go he got the overtake and began to escape.

In the chasing group, Marc Márquez (Ducati) was fifth, behind Aleix Espargaró and Raúl Fernández (Aprilia), after starting fourteenth on the grid. In the braking of Turn 1 and with five laps to go, the man from Cervera placed fourth, and on a later lap he also overtook the man from Granollers to get on the podium.

Thus, Aleix was fourth, while Raúl Fernández finished sixth, ahead of Alex Márquez (Ducati). In addition, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) completed the test thirteenth, Acosta was fourteenth, Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) finished sixteenth and Alex Rins (Yamaha), twentieth. Augusto Fernández (KTM) could not finish.
