Jordi Ribera: “When you miss so many clear chances, the most normal thing is that you lose”

“Wolff is the proper name”

PARIS, Aug. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national handball coach, Jordi Ribera, regretted the missed opportunity to reach the final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the defeat this Friday against Germany, failing to achieve “clear chances” to score, including in the decisive minutes.

“Apart from the first 15 minutes, when we were a bit lacking in accuracy, we won the match back with a draw, and we could have even gone away with a goal more if it weren’t for Wolff in goal,” he said in statements provided by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM).

Ribera gave the German goalkeeper credit, but pointed to the final minutes, when the ‘Hispanos’ had several attacks in unbeatable positions to go two goals ahead. “It is the name of the game. In the second half we were clear dominators of the dynamics of the game but not of the finishing, which in some way is what ultimately gives you the ability to win the game,” he said.

“It was a game of patience. We knew that we were good in defence, that we were recovering balls. We knew that they had offensive power in shooting but that sooner or later we would have our opportunities, as has happened. We had several chances to get within two, with clear shots, it wasn’t to be and, in the end, when you miss so many clear chances, the most normal thing is that you lose,” he concluded.
