The Spanish athlete Jordan Díaz left a serious warning this Wednesday with a jump of 17.55 in the Castellón meeting on the way to the Olympic Games, while Enrique Llopis ran the 110 meter hurdles in Nerja at the Olympic minimum, winner with 13.26.
The day was extensive for Spanish athletics in different geographical locations, with good news for the imminent European Championship and, later, Paris 2024. Díaz, in his outdoor debut, flew in the triple jump as the clear protagonist in Castellón.
The Spanish-Cuban set the third best world record of the year in his first jump of the season, a 17.55 with which he would have won a medal in the last international championships. Díaz, naturalized since 2022, thus achieved his Olympic minimum to be in Paris where he will now be able to compete as a Spaniard.
On the other hand, also in Castellón, Ana Peleteiro won the women’s triple with 14.28, while Eusebio Cáceres clocked 7.97 in length, with victory also for Fátima Diame (6.8). Furthermore, in the 10,000m, Thierry Ndikumwenayo dominated from start to finish (27:26.57), below the RFEA minimum for the Games.
In Nerja, Mohamed Attaoui clocked a promising 1:44.88 in the 800m ahead of the continental event in Rome and dreaming of Paris. Another minimum for the European Championship and for the Games came in the Marseille meeting led by Fernando Carro in the 3,000 hurdles, with 8:18.30.
