The Dane has a lung contusion, a broken collarbone and several broken ribs after his fall in Itzulia

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) remains “stable” and admitted to a hospital in the Basque Country after his fall on Thursday in the fourth stage of the Itzulia, which caused him to fracture his collarbone, several ribs broken bones, a lung contusion and a pneumothorax.
“A subsequent examination at the hospital revealed that Vingegaard also suffered a lung contusion and pneumothorax. He is stable and had a good night. He remains hospitalized,” the Dutch team revealed this Friday in a new statement.
Late Thursday, Visma reported that the current double Tour de France champion was “fortunately stable and conscious”, admitted with a “fracture to the collarbone and several broken ribs.”
After a massive fall that affected, among others, the then leader of the race Primoz Roglic (BORA-hansgrohe) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Jonas Vingegaard was taken on a stretcher, motionless, to an ambulance before he could be transferred to a hospital.
An ugly fall in a tight corner that left several cyclists fallen into a ditch, including Roglic and Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) who was also hospitalized to rule out neurological damage, and others fallen in the forest, such as Evenepoel, Natnael Tesfatsion (Lidl-Trek) or Sean Quinn (EF Education-EasyPost).
