Jon Rahm, two shots behind Koepka on the second day of the Augusta Masters

MADRID, 8 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has finished the second day of the Augusta Masters, the first ‘major’ of the season, with a solid performance of -10 that allows him to position himself second overall, two shots behind the American Brooks Koepka, leader in one day marked by heavy rain.

The Basque, who had started his participation in the Augusta National with a ‘double-bogey’ before recovering to finish co-leader, began the second round with six consecutive pairs in the middle of the downpour, which unleashed chaos that could turn into tragedy with the Three trees fell near the 17th hole.

The day was stopped and could only be resumed on Saturday morning, with Barrika’s lion at -7 and with nine holes still pending, three strokes behind the momentary leader Koepka. Already at the restart, he dropped two shots at 12 and 15 to stay one behind the American, but fell short at 16.

Despite the inclement weather in Georgia, another ‘birdie’ on the 17th hole put him back in the fight to finish the day on top, but the ‘bogey’ on the 18th left him with a card of 69 (-10) just two shots off the lead (-12) in the race for the green jacket.

For his part, the American Tiger Woods, five times winner in Augusta, made the cut and unleashed the applause of the public present at the Augusta National. With an obvious limp, the result of the terrible traffic accident suffered a couple of years ago, the former world champion resisted in a day in which he fought against the field and against his physique.

Thus, he was saving pars and, despite two setbacks on holes 17 and 18, he was left waiting, with +3, for his rivals to do the same. The errors of the American Justin Thomas in the last two holes (+4) served him the pass for the 22nd time in the Masters.
