Jon Rahm is unable to participate in PGA Tour rounds before the LIV season starts.
Jon Rahm said that he hoped to keep playing on both the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour after he signed with LIV Golf. He talked about the Spanish Open and DP World Tour games that took place in Spain.
Besides that, he has won two of the first three PGA Tour events (The Sentry and the American Express). But it looks like the PGA Tour choice is off the table.
Any player who wants to play in the 2024 season must accept the rules of membership. If he can’t do that, he can’t play.
That doesn’t come as a surprise, though it was unclear if Rahm would be able to play before his first game with LIV in February.
As a two-time major winner, the 29-year-old Spaniard still has a lot of love for the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, in which he has won 11 and 10 times, respectively.
His love of the Ryder Cup is as strong as his attitude. Rahm even said that the match against the Americans every two years was the biggest thing that was stopping him from getting to LIV.
Rahm talked about his plans for the future with reporters Thursday night. He talked about playing on both tours and in the Ryder Cup. “I have never changed how I feel about the Ryder Cup.”
I enjoy the Ryder Cup a lot. “I’ve said many times how important it is to me, and I really hope I can play in future Ryder Cups,” he said.
“Right now that’s not up to me, but if it were, I’d be able to play, so I really hope I can keep in the good golf and give these individuals a reason to keep me on the team.”
“I can say that I do want to keep my DP World and PGA Tour status.” And I’m not going to give that up. With the freedom who LIV Golf gives me, I hope I can play on each of those tours too, Rahm said.
As I’ve said before, the Spanish Open is very important to me. If we ever get to that point, there are still some PGA Tour events I want to play in as long as an my schedule allows it. We’ll see what we as a team can do if it’s possible.”
But when might Rahm go on tour again? The 2024 LIV Golf season starts on February 2–4 at Mayakoba in Mexico.
It will be three years since Rahm won a PGA Tour event. The Sentry, the American Express, and the Farmers Insurance Open will all happen beforehand LIV Golf Mayakoba.
Sources say that the LIV Golf League, which is funded by Saudi Arabia, dealt the PGA Tour another devastating blow on Thursday when they signed Masters winner Jon Rahm to a multiyear deal worth in excess of $300 million.
Rahm, who used to be ranked No. 1 in the world and won two majors, is the latest PGA Tour star to take hundreds of millions for dollars to play on the other tour.
Spain’s Rahm could be LIV Golf’s biggest deal because of how successful and well-known he is around the world.
Rahm’s choice comes at a moment in which the PGA Tour or Saudi Arabia’s Public Initiative Fund are working to fix a sport that is broken up by connecting their commercial properties, such as LIV Golf.
In July, Rahm said on a podcast in Spanish that he had met with Greg Norman, CEO and commissioner of LIV Golf, in Mexico early in 2022, before the inaugural circuit started.
“Instead of convincing me with the history for golf and with what I love, he started sending me numbers, numbers, and numbers,” said Rahm.
“My answer was, ‘Talk to my boss, and we’ll talk later.'” That was the only time I talked to him about it. Following this, I told my boss that I didn’t like this.
