Jon Rahm holds his pulse at the Spanish Open

The Basque lowers the piston but stays up in search of his third title

MADRID, 7 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm saved a difficult and bumpy day this Friday at the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid, an event belonging to the DP World Tour, to go two shots off the lead after the second day.

The local idol signed three shots under par, based on a great reaction in the last seven holes, for a total of -10 to be two shots behind the English Paul Waring and the Scotsman Stephen Gallacher, co-leaders after the second day at the Club de Villa de Madrid field.

Rahm stays in the fight although he couldn’t look like Thursday and that groundbreaking 64. The Basque failed several starts and had to save the guy on more than one occasion. All in all, the ‘bogey’ fell on the 5th hole and then also on the 10th and 11th, but the two-time tournament champion recovered with each setback.

He left two ‘birdies’ in the first round and, after that second crisis, signed a great ‘putt’ on 12 that put him back on track, four ‘birdies’ and some that resisted him, like the tie on 18 Rahm, who knows he has the game and knows the course enough to emulate Severiano Ballesteros with the third Spanish Open, did not even seem to regret it.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the tournament is still very open, with a change in the lead for the 63 signed by Waring and the 65 by Gallacher, and 35 players in seven strokes. As for the Spanish options, Sebastián García, Alfredo García-Heredia and Luis Masaveu, at -8, and Pablo Larrazabal (-7) are the best placed after Rahm.
