Jon Rahm fights but does not come back as The Open demands

The Spanish golfer suffers again on the second day and the lead continues to move away

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm remains far from the lead after the second day of the British Open, fourth and last ‘major’ of the season, improving but not enough to be in contention this weekend unless rain and wind wreak havoc.

Rahm, number three in the world, left a second day under par, -1, and a total of +2 little seeing the progression of the top. American Brian Harman broke into the lead, never before in this position after 36 holes of a ‘Grand Slam’, after equaling the Royal Liverpool Golf Club record with 65 strokes.

After four ‘birdies’ almost in a row and an ‘eagle’ in the 18th, in total the American took the lead in the morning session to -10 quite demanding. The chase for Rahm was frustrating as in his debut despite starting well, with the ‘birdies’ on holes five and six. The ‘putts’ entered but a bad start at 9 and a ‘putt’ with a tie that he cursed at 10 changed the dynamics.

Again, the ‘lion of Barrika’ had to sweat in the fight with the mythical course of the Merseyside, but by no means threw in the towel, taking out the ‘birdie’ at 15 and 17. The cruel script that pursues the Masters champion at The Open reappeared at 18, with three ‘putts’ and that +2 with which he will make the cut but which seems very scarce except for a catastrophe from above in Hoylake.

In the absence of the end of Friday, the best Spaniard continues to be Adrian Otaegui, despite the fact that he could not finish off another good round on the greens. The golfer from San Sebastian did not have the same precision as on Thursday to leave himself better options for ‘birdie’ and signed a +2 that, with the income of the first day, leaves him -2 in total.
