Joint statement by Real Madrid, Barça and Athletic on ‘LaLiga Proyecto Impulso’

Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, the three Spanish clubs that have shown themselves against ‘LaLiga Proyecto Impulso’, promoted by the employers’ association directed by Javier Tebas and the CVC investment fund, they have issued a joint statement after the Higher Sports Council (CSD) canceled a meeting that had been scheduled for today with these three clubs, as well as with the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the president of La Liga.

Real Madrid, Barça and Athletic show their disappointment in the statement for not holding a meeting in which They expected the CSD to adopt decisions to avoid this Friday the approval of a project that they consider illegal,

The three clubs explain that the CSD has informed them that it lacks the power to make decisions about the ‘La Liga Impulso Project’ and its legality, which is why it has invited them to go to the ordinary courts.

In this context, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Club, after consulting this position with the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, who shares the position of the aforementioned clubs, indicate:

a) We understand that the meeting proposed by the CSD today should be postponed, and held as long as the CSD has had the opportunity to properly assess the flagrant irregularities of the LaLiga Impulso Project and confirm that it has the power to act in the exercise. of its supervisory functions.

b) We regret that LaLiga continues to promote the approval of a project that we consider flagrantly illegal and that seriously harms the interests of all Spanish football, built through the expropriation of the audiovisual rights that belong to each and every one of the clubs that may participate in LaLiga in the next 50 years, not LaLiga, and at a time product of the pandemic, of helplessness, uncertainty and weakness of many of the current associate members. If the agreement is approved, we will exercise the appropriate legal actions, of whatever nature.

c) We reiterate our willingness to participate in as many meetings as necessary, provided that they aim to assess solutions that respect our legal system in all its extremes, in order to help reach the consensus that Spanish football so badly needs in a climate of open dialogue .
