The captain of Real Betis Balompié Joaquín Sánchez has renewed with the Verdiblanco team for one more season, until June 30, 2023, with which he will complete his 23rd season as a professional, 14 of them with the Betis shirt, the entity announced on Wednesday on its official website.
“Real Betis Balompié has renewed Joaquín Sánchez’s contract. The Verdiblanco captain, a living legend of Beticism, will continue to be linked to the Club’s discipline until 2023,” Betis said.
Joaquín arrived at the Verdiblanca quarry at the age of 16 and in the 2020-21 season he became the player who has worn his shirt the most times. Since his debut, he has played 451 official matches with Real Betis, scoring 61 goals and dishing out 44 assists. “An icon for different generations of Betis that will continue to make Benito Villamarín enjoy with his inexhaustible talent,” added the Sevillian club.
In the 2021-22 season, Joaquín played 36 games: 21 in the League, 10 in the Europa League and 5 in the Copa del Rey, a trophy he won on penalties against Valencia, scoring two goals and providing four assists. With 600 games in LaLiga Santander, Joaquín could beat the record of 622 held by the international exporter of Athletic Club and FC Barcelona Andoni Zubizarreta, and will end his contract with almost 42 years.
