MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Spanish MotoGP rider Joan Mir (Suzuki) will miss the San Marino Grand Prix, which takes place at the Misano Circuit on the first weekend of September, due to his right ankle injury, the team said in a statement. this Tuesday.
“The latest tests show damage to the bones and ligaments in his right ankle that will force the rider to rest for at least the next 15 days,” Suzuki said.
Joan Mir suffered a terrible crash on the first lap of the Austrian Grand Prix last Sunday at the Red Bull Ring circuit. The first tests and X-rays carried out at the circuit’s medical center after the accident revealed a small fracture in the talus of the right ankle. After returning home that same Sunday night, the Mallorcan underwent further tests in Andorra.
The pilot visited Doctor Juan Garcías on Monday at the Juaneda Miramar Hospital in Palma de Mallorca, where he underwent a computed tomography and an extra magnetic resonance since the doctors wanted to rule out bone damage in both the head of the left and right talus. .
Despite issuing a more encouraging diagnosis than expected, Dr. Juan Garcías found damage to the ligaments and bones of the right ankle and recommended caution, advising absolute rest for the next 15 days, so Mir will not be able to run in Misano, and puts the horizon at the Aragón Grand Prix, from September 16 to 18.
“After various tests, the doctors advised me 15 days of rest and another evaluation after that period. Unfortunately, I will miss the Misano race, but I am confident that I will be able to return in Aragon. I want to thank Dainese and AGV for protecting me and avoiding a more serious injury after the hard fall I had on Sunday. It has been a tough season, but I am convinced that we will come back stronger to bring more good times to my team and to all of you who support me”, Joan Mir assessed the situation.
For his part, Suzuki boss Livio Suppo lamented that problems “continue to arise during this difficult season”. “We must remain optimistic. The crash was very big and in the end the injury is serious, but it could have been worse, so let’s be positive and see how he recovers in the next 15 days to be ready for Aragon,” he concluded.
