Jesús Navas: “Mendilibar has brought out the best in us, he deserves to stay for a long time”

MADRID, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The captain of Sevilla, Jesús Navas, is “very excited about another great and wonderful opportunity” this Wednesday to be able to win another Europa League in the final against AS Roma and does not hide that his coach, José Luis Mendilibar “deserves to stay a long time “for the change that the team has undergone since his arrival.

“I am very excited about another great and wonderful opportunity. We face a very tough opponent and it will be a very disputed match, but I hope we win and enjoy the occasion,” said Jesús Navas in an interview published this Monday on the website of UEFA.

The one from Los Palacios acknowledges that the team is transformed in this competition and that it is “incredible” how they come out “in each game”. “The Europa League has given us a lot, and the joy it brings us every time we participate in it drives us to go as far as possible,” he underlined.

This final comes after a very turbulent season and thanks in large part to the reaction with their third coach, José Luis Mendilibar.
“What he has done with us has been fundamental”, admits the Sevilla captain. “He’s brought out the best in us, and when you look at the teams we’ve knocked out, it’s something to be very proud of. He deserves to stay with us for a long time,” he added.

“He is a coach who always puts pressure on us and who has that work ethic to train hard and get the best out of us. His arrival has coincided with an incredible change in our season and he deserves to be in this final because he works very well”, he remarked Jesús Navas on the impact of the Biscayan coach.

On the other hand, he does not hide that his return to Sevilla in 2017 after passing through Manchester City was “very special”. “The love that the fans have for me is incredible, they were waiting for my return and I really wanted to continue doing great things here and win trophies. In the end, as captain, I was able to lift the Europa League trophy in 2020 and it was wonderful” , he confessed.

“I came back with the same energy and wanting to continue growing, learning and winning. I want Sevilla to grow even more, and now we are in another final. I have supported them since I was a child, I have grown here and it means everything to me I enjoy every game and I have enormous passion for the shirt, that’s the most beautiful thing. I owe it all to the fans and the club and I have the humility to fight for the team’s badge and colors, which have given me joy ever since that he was young”, sentenced the Andalusian.
