Jeff Luhnow, the engineer of “science and art”, leads the new Leganés

MADRID, 23 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The new owner of Leganés, Jeff Luhnow, is now officially president of the club in the south of Madrid, which he intends to promote in the coming years -with a long-term project- based on pillars such as the youth academy and ‘big data’, keys for its development since this same campaign, the third consecutive for the pepineros in the SmartBank League.

The sale by the previous owners, Victoria Pavón and Felipe Moreno, after 14 seasons in charge, leaves Lunhow at the helm of Lega, where the recent deposit will be difficult to overcome. The last decade has been the most glorious for the blue and white club: From Segunda B to Primera, two promotions and countless unforgettable matches until they earned a place in the national elite.

The task of the Mexican-American engineer, who had been negotiating the transfer for several months, will not be easy despite the fact that recent seasons have been more insipid in Butarque. To the descent to Second, the pepineros added two courses full of ups and downs. Although they fought for promotion in their first campaign, this last one they have been very far.

Luhnow, owner of the company Blue Crow Sports, wants to make a qualitative leap with the background that his experience as a manager in other sports provides him. He is currently president of Cancun FC and was truly revolutionary with his analytics systems in the North American Baseball League at the St. Louis Cardinals and with the Houston Astros.

For the businessman and engineer, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, the role model in Spain is Villarreal, whose commitment to the academy and young people he admires. The future sale of those players will allow the club to continue growing with more income. That is the departure of Lunhow, who does not forget the importance of integrating into the city.

Aware of the needs of the Lega fan, Lunhow wants to get involved with the social fabric to respect history and recover the best moments of the Lega based on a magic formula: science + art. Data and information as power, but also the sum of talent and improvisation as the basis for success in this sport.

The idea of working together with the Carlos III University of Madrid, based in Leganés, is in his head, in order to implement decision-making not only on the pitch, but also in the offices. The new president of the Leganenses arrives accompanied by several members of his team who are experts in ‘big data’.

In addition, Luhnow will maintain the entire staff of the club, according to the agreement reached with Felipe Moreno, and will not touch the things that are being done well, which are many, according to the new owner of Lega, who will also start with stability in the plot of the technical secretariat, where Txema Indias will continue.
