Jay Vine: “I’m a lot more confident after the first win”

MADRID, 27 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Australian cyclist Jay Vine (Alpecin-Deceunick) won his second stage victory in La Vuelta a España this Saturday, both in the two high-altitude finishes to date, so he faced the eighth day “with much more confidence” after his first partial victory last Thursday.

“It’s unbelievable, I think I’m a lot more confident after the first win. I’m in a good moment. I’ve enjoyed the day and it’s been a lot of fun,” said Vine, who also took the points classification jersey.

The Australian completed the escape of ten runners on the Asturian ramps. “In the first port, I wasn’t sure if we could keep on the run. It seemed like they were chasing us with intent. I decided to focus on scoring in the first few ports,” he added.

“Then in the valley we were a good group. The FDJs were three in the group and Quick-Step was in control, so I thought I could continue to score points from the mountain without pushing myself, but the stage was my main goal,” said Vine.

Finally, the rider from Alpecin-Deceunick attacked to take the stage. “Lutsenko made a first move and I was practically on his wheel, so I just followed him. Since I attacked, it’s been a 25-minute effort, similar to what I did two days ago. I decided to keep the pressure on. After a minute and half, I continued until the next corner, then I looked back and there was nobody,” he concluded.
