MADRID, 22 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, confirmed this Wednesday that he has presented his resignation, an action that he needs to do in order to be able to run for re-election again for the next four years and that he plans for it to be his last term.
“A few minutes ago I presented my resignation as president of
LaLiga prior to the end of my mandate, which ended on December 23. A new electoral process will open in which I will present myself, so I will request the endorsement and trust of the clubs to take on the challenges at hand,” Tebas said in his official ‘X’ profile.
The employers’ association also reported the resignation of the president and reported that “an electoral process is thus opened in which, in accordance with the statutory and regulatory provisions, the draw for the appointment of the candidates will be held today. members of the Electoral Commission, which once constituted will be in charge of calling the elections.”
Javier Tebas was re-elected at the end of December 2019 to face his third term at the head of an organization that he has presided over since April 2013 when he replaced José Luis Astiazarán and once again enjoyed the trust of the clubs when this first stage ended.
Last September, in an interview on ‘Movistar+’, he already recalled that a fourth term would be his last. “I said that I would not be over 65 years old and I am 61, but if I am not re-elected I will go home or do other work. I always have job offers, at a national and international level great work has been done in LaLiga and that is valued. It’s not a question of money, it’s that you feel comfortable, there are still projects to consolidate like ‘LaLiga Impulso’,” he warned then.
