Javier Fernández: “I miss training with the adrenaline of the competition and wanting to be the best”

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish ice skater Javier Fernández, retired from high competition since 2019, confesses that he misses “training with the adrenaline of competition and wanting to be the best”, and recalls with “great joy” the fourth anniversary of his historic medal bronze in PyeongChang 2018.

“I miss seeing the skaters and the work team that I had in Canada, it has been part of me for a long time and has helped me achieve a lot of joy. One of the things that I liked was the competition training, training with that adrenaline and wanting to be the best. I liked that feeling, unlike when I competed, that pressure, the tension, that aspect is the one I miss the least”, revealed Javier Fernández in an interview with Europa Press after one of the acts of presentation of ‘Revolution on Ice’.

The skater from Madrid points out that on the day of the competition, the process of doing the program or the exercise “is often complicated”. “It’s a high-performance sport, it’s not going to be easy, but sometimes it meant a lot to me and I got hungover after the competition to be under that tension and pressure,” he added.

In this 2022 it will be four years since the bronze medal achieved by the Madrid skater at the PyeongChang Games, a feat for Spanish sport that he remembers with “great joy”. “I want to believe that I am indeed a benchmark for future generations. All athletes have our role in sport. Anything that is beneficial to continue making sport something more practiced is a flag that we have, as if we were ambassadors”, express.

“I want to believe that, year after year, winter sports will continue to evolve, and although it is not in our hands to do absolutely everything, we can help. The important thing is to continue fighting because everyone can choose to do the sport they want in the right conditions. optimal,” he assured about the future of the winter disciplines.

In January 2019, Javier Fernández announced his retirement from professional sports, so in these Games he has brought out his facet as an analyst. “Adrián (Díaz) and Olivia (Smart) have played a great role, they have done the work they had to do. They have finished eighth, a great place for them and our country. It really is to rejoice,” he said.

“HAVE TWO COUPLES IN THE TOP 10 IN BEIJING IS A VERY GOOD LEVEL”

“Laura (Barquero) and Marco (Zandron) are a new couple, they have a lot of potential. We see that they are at a level, having two couples in the top 10 in a Games in a sport like ice skating is a very good level. continue to support them to improve and climb a few more positions”, said the two-time world champion.

On the other hand, the athlete will premiere a new edition of his show ‘Revolution on Ice’ on March 19. “I really want to do the show again. We have had a long break, we have had to delay what we wanted to do already. We want to do this show for many years. We will return with the show, renewed and different,” he announced.

The Olympic medalist acknowledges that he also feels “comfortable” organizing this type of event. “We want to change year after year, to improve, because we want people who enjoy the show to be able to come every year because it is different. That is our goal, to reinvent ourselves year after year. There are always surprises,” he confirmed.
