Jaume Munar falls to Nicolás Jarry at the Córdoba Open

The Spanish Jaume Munar, number 104 of the ATP classification, lost this Monday to the Chilean Nicolás Jarry (1,165 in the world) in his debut in the main draw of Argentina's Córdoba ATP 250 Open, which is played on clay.

Munar won the first quarter by 7-5, but then fell by 6 (5) – (7) 7 and 4-6.

Jarry, who had won his last match in an ATP tournament in July 2019, will play in the next round against France's Benoit Paire (29), second seed of the tournament.

Furthermore, the Slovak Josef Kovalik (128) beat Colombian Daniel Galán (116) on Monday 6-2, 1-6 and 6-3.

Kovalik will face the Chilean Marcelo Barrios (265) in the round of 32, which comes from the classification.

Four qualifying matches were also played, two of which had Argentine triumphs over Brazilians: Facundo Bagnis beat Pedro Sakamoto 6-2, 6-4 and Juan Manuel Cerundolo beat Joao Menezes by a double 6-4.

The store Tomás Etcheverry beat the American Ernesto Escobedo by a double 7-5 and Barrios eliminated the Argentine Camilo Carabelli by 7 (7) – (3) 6 and 7 (7) – (4) 7.

The Córdoba Open has 16 tennis players located in the top 100 of the ATP world rankings, but the current champion, the Chilean Cristian Garín (22), is absent.

After the consecration of the local Juan Ignacio Londero in 2019 and Garín in 2020, in this third edition the Argentine is present Diego Schwartzman (9), the French Benoit Paire (29) and the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (41).

The Spaniards Albert Ramos (47), Pablo Andújar (55), Pedro Martínez (89) and Roberto Carballes Baena (96), the Serbian Laslo Djere (59); the German Dominik Koepfer (71); the Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas (73); the Italians Salvatore Caruso (77) and Marco Cecchinato (87), the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (74) and the locals Federico Delbonis (84), Juan Ignacio Londero (88) and Federico Coria (95) complete the tennis players seeded among the hundred best of the ATP classification.

Argentine Guido Pella (45) was out at the last minute due to coronavirus.

This Tuesday, Ramos will play against Londero and Koepfer against Coria, among other parties.

The tournament is played on clay and will provide 250 points for the winner, 150 for the finalist, 90 for the semi-finalists, 45 for the quarterfinalists, and 20 for those who reach the second round.

For its part, this Argentine contest will distribute 325,270 dollars, almost half of the last edition.
