Jasikevicius: “It has been too much punishment”

MADRID, 25 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça’s coach, Sarunas Jasikevicius, lamented that the defeat against Real Madrid in the Endesa Super Cup final “has been too much punishment”, in a duel that “either” of the two teams could have won.

“The game could be anyone’s, shooting so many free throws in extra time punishes you a lot”, analyzed the Barça coach at the press conference after the defeat (89-83) against Real Madrid with the Super Cup at stake.

Jasikevicius highlighted that after the Whites’ response in the third quarter, with three consecutive three-pointers by Sergio Llull, Barça “recovered and got ahead”. “The game lasts 40 minutes, we had our fourth, we didn’t go wrong in the third, but we have to give credit to our boys. In the last quarter, the game could have been for anyone and in extra time it was something similar”, insisted.

The Lithuanian coach pointed out that the defeat was “too much punishment” for his team, before highlighting the “quality” of Real Madrid, with a starting lineup with “almost all” of the players over two meters tall, which he considered “a big advantage”.

“After eight offensive rebounds in the first quarter, they took 10 from us in three quarters and an extra time, it’s a good job on our part,” he commented on a facet that the white team dominated, before stating that “in general terms” it is “glad”.

Finally, he asserted that they cannot “build everything on one player”, in relation to the Argentine Nico Laprovittola. “We need everyone, it’s a long season of ten months. The idea was to have the internationals, they’ve played with their national teams and they’re the ones in the best shape right now, but we’ll have to rotate a lot, the season is very long. 80-90 games, we are going to need everyone,” he explained.
