Japan, Costa Rica and Zambia, Spain’s rivals in the 2023 Women’s World Cup

MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s soccer team will face Japan, Costa Rica and Zambia in Group C of the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand between July 20 and August 20 next summer, according to the draw held at the Aotea Center in Auckland.

The team led by Jorge Vilda, who started for the first time as the seed since Pot 1 and who debuted their sixth position in the FIFA ranking, was framed in an affordable a priori group that will be played entirely in New Zealand.

Thus, Spain will debut on July 21 at the Wellington Regional Stadium -with capacity for 39,000 people- against Costa Rica, 37th power in the FIFA ranking.

Subsequently, on July 26 they will face Zambia, debutant in a World Cup and 81st in the world, at Auckland’s Eden Park -with capacity for 48,276 spectators-, and will close the group stage again at the Wellington Regional Stadium on July 31 July against Japan, eleventh world power.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup, to be held from July 20 to August 20, will bring together 32 teams for the first time. To prepare for this date, Spain will play two friendlies in November, against Argentina in Melilla (Friday 11th) and precisely against Japan at La Cartuja in Seville (Tuesday 15th); in February he will have two international commitments and in April he will play another two matches in Ibiza against two opponents to be confirmed.
