Jairo: “To this day, to think that the team is up for promotion is to be wrong”

In the 2012-13 season, Jairo Samperio stood out at Racing as one of the strongest promises in Spanish football. Málaga yielded Juanmi to the Cantabrians and obtained a preferential option over Cabezón de la Sal. Unfortunately, Racing fell and Jairo, who was a U-20 international, was transferred to Sevilla for approximately 1.5 million euros. He signed for five seasons.

Unfortunately injuries have slowed him down an upward career that now, at 27, is trying to relaunch at Malaga. Jairo gave an interview to the 7TV program ‘Minuto 91’ that we reproduce below for your interest.

Your arrival in Malaga. “Arriving and competing directly was not easy. That needs his training process, of getting you physically in tune. I feel good and physically in the best moment since I arrived ”.

Concern? “Of course we are. Without excesses, because we would all sign the start of the team. We have to do self-criticism, especially at home. Outside we let go, I don't know why, because the public factor is not there. I don't know very well what happens to us, many times we put ourselves ahead and it is difficult for us to close or control the game. That is our fault and lack of experience to control it. We would carry more points. A negative streak must be cut as soon as possible. To this day it is wrong to think that the team is up for promotion. I would love to do it and spend ten more years here at Primera. But you have to be aware of the club's situation and that we are in transition. The objective is to save ourselves and hopefully we will do it with enough margin ”.

Ponferradina. “It was a bad, very bad game. We were not in the game, we were late to many duels, many yellows that could be avoided if we were attentive. We were not well, we all know it, we have spoken among ourselves, but we cannot blame ourselves for a lack of attitude because that cannot be allowed today. We have to improve and think about Alcorcón that we have a chance to punch the table. Soccer gives you the opportunities to reverse situations very quickly. We have to end the bad streak as soon as possible. It is not the fault of one or the other. They cannot beat us in attitude, it is non-negotiable today. We have discussed it and within the team we are calm and we are all working well. The coach sees it and you know that we are committed ”.

Pellicer press conference after Saturday's defeat. “He says things the way he thinks them, to your face and without blaming anyone. They are football things and you have to say it like that to make self-criticism. He said that he saw players out of the game and that cannot be negotiated or happened again. The team was not there, we have to recognize it and improve. Work so that it doesn't happen again. He wants people to be in and no one to relax. We are all committed, from first to last, people are training well. It's more of a wake-up call because things didn't work out ”.
The technician. “He is very close to the players. He trusts me a lot, he knows that it has been difficult for me to enter, lately he sees me better and with the confidence we need. He gives it to me. We are a short staff and we are going to need everyone. With the goal in Albacete, and the Cup match that I think was good, I think that every day I feel better to regain my best level ”.

How is the team? “I see him focused and knowing who we are and where we come from. We are the same from day one. Criticisms will always be when you do not win. It's football and you have to live with it. The other day, you can criticize his lack of attitude, if we don't have it, it's to criticize him. We have to accept it as a normal thing. If you leave everything on the field, people will be with the team. With attitude you cannot negotiate ”.

Alberto Quintana. “When he has played I have liked it a lot. Train every day with us. He is quiet, very calm and works in the shade, but he has me in love with the way he has played games with us and in training. I like very much. The quarry has players with a lot of potential. Juan Cruz, Julio or Larrubia, who was very good in the Cup. There is a very good youth team and I ask them to continue working as they have been up to now. This year is also important for many of them because they will be able to tie themselves to the first team ”.

How about Malaga? “With the German teams there are preseason because the league lasts a month and I had to come to Marbella for four years (he played with Mainz 05 and Hamburg) and I already know winter here, which is not winter for me. It is a wonder that all cold is like this. We were looking forward to going back to Spain and the city and the weather is spectacular. From the first day the stay has been very easy, there is a very healthy group, we are very close and that is appreciated for anyone who comes from abroad. Everything is made much easier ”.

Knee injury. “Physically I am fine, without pain. Although mentally, an injury of this caliber few can forget it, but it helps you motivate yourself to know where you come from and how you came out. That helps you in weakness. It has been the worst moment of my career and personally it affects you, it is frustrating at the beginning of the recovery because you feel useless because you can hardly move. But you learn to value many things that you did not do before. After being inactive for a year, it shows. More returning from a serious injury, you need a process and with matches it becomes faster. Confidence is difficult to regain instant. The last year in Germany I was already recovered, but I did not have the confidence of the coach. The idea of ​​coming here was to feel important and to play my best at the highest level. We are in that process ”.
